Prayer of God’s People
O God, our hearts are heavy knowing that people are suffering from the devastation of another earthquake in Haiti that has killed tens of thousands and caused many more homeless and confused. We pray for the safety of those who are still being rescued and transported out of the area. We pray for the many rescue workers including our American Baptist missionaries who are providing medical care to those who are injured and harmed. Be especially with Peggy Burke and the other women from the Columbus, Ohio area that they will be able to return to the United States soon. Stir our hearts for compassion as we receive donations to aid in the effort that will no doubt take years to recover in the capital of Port de Prince.
Lord God, when natural disasters like this happens, we are left without words to explain. While we make every effort to prevent catastrophes and minimize problems such as sending our own members to participate in missions overseas in Thailand or having our own disaster drill this afternoon, we know that our lives are ultimately in your hands. Teach us to trust in you with our lives but also spur us to take responsibilities for what we can do to partner with one another to make this a better world as you created it to be.
We also lift up our church for your wisdom, vision, and plan as we discern new avenues for ministry. Guide our listening forums as we explore the needs and directions for our 9:10 Worship and the many programs for young families and young adults. Challenge us to see new possibilities in partnering with the Chinatown YMCA to have new space for expanding our ministries so that your kingdom is fulfilled. Show us to see beyond what is obvious so that we can spread the Good News of Jesus Christ beyond our own building and into the larger world.
Thank you, Lord for your mercy and blessings. We pray for those in our midst who are not well and are in need of your healing miracles. Be with…
As your beloved community, we choose to follow Jesus in doing missions, in sharing the Gospel of Good News, in being a light of hope in the dark streets of San Francisco Chinatown. We choose Jesus Christ who taught us to pray together, “Our Father…”
Offertory
What will we give in gratitude for God’s forgiveness and healing grace? Who can repay the many gifts we have received with the miracle of life? Let us rejoice in the mission God entrusts to us.
Offertory Prayer
Lord, may what we share strengthen in your children spiritually, inspiring each person to invest fully in the work you set before us. May the relief efforts in Haiti move forward with our gifts and prayers. Thank you for granting us this joy of giving. Amen.
Benediction
Depart to serve, strengthened by the Holy Spirit.
Use the wisdom, faith, and knowledge you received.
For we cannot rest in God’s care or keep silent.
The love of God must be lived and shared in Thailand, Haiti, in San Francisco Chinatown and throughout this world. Amen.
