Prayer of God’s People

Holy God, we humble ourselves before you, trusting in your love and your power to save. Fill us anew with your Holy Spirit, that we may be strong in our inner being, disciplined in our behaviors, and alert to know the needs of the world.

At the beginning of Lent, we confess the sins of our humanity, the sins of failing to resist the tempting powers at work within us and around us. We say we want to be like Jesus, but we confess we have not always used your gifts invested in us as faithfully as he did. Forgive our sinful ways.

We pray this day for ourselves that your word be planted deeply and powerfully within us to strengthen us. That we might more fully realize the purpose and the blessing of our challenges. That we surrender ourselves to doing things your way, worshipping and serving you alone.

And we also pray for others. We pray for Nico Tom and his parents to trust in your healing and strengthening powers for life and health. May Nico gain strength and the capacity to take his food well. We lift up Tom Wong today who has struggled mightily from cancer and has now placed his life in your loving embrace. Teach us to believe that all things are possible in your sight and whatever happens, we believe that your promise of eternal life will have no more pain and suffering. Be with Maureen and their family at such a tender and heartfelt season. We think and pray about…

Be present at the Women’s Retreat as they discern your Spirit among them and guide them to live productive and dedicated lives to advance your kingdom on earth. Thank you, Lord for the abundance we have and call us to use what we have which have all come from you to bring about peace, justice and the love of Christ in the world. We pray in Christ’s name and who taught us to pray together, “Our Father…”

Benediction

May we face the temptations of life to test our resolve in the Lord.

Let us go out to be joyfully devoted to our life purpose and mission:

To know, love, and serve God in the same strength made available to Christ Jesus.

Amen.
