Prayer of God’s People

Light of the world, Beacon in darkness, everlasting God, shine in our hearts at this time of worship and prayer. Draw us out of ourselves and into fellowship with your people, those who share our pew as well as those around the world. We are strangers no more but together we are part of your fellowship. We who were far apart are now drawn near in Jesus.

Today, dear Lord, we are still shaken by the horrifying details of lives taken away from families whom we may not know personally but as a people who were once all far off from each other as strangers but are now unified together as one humanity in Christ, we are saddened and praying for those who have lost loved ones and many who were only youth and young adults. We pray for those who were injured that they may recover. And we pray for the arrested young man who has been identified as the shooter and his family at this time of great remorse. O God, help us to find consolation at this time of national grieving. And we do pray for our lawmakers to take a courageous review of the gun-control legislation that we have that permits disturbed and angry people to kill innocent people. Dear God, save us from our sins.

Thank you, O God for watching over Day Camp in the past 5 weeks and we pray for the final preparation for this year’s Youth Camp that begins next Sunday. May the Good News of Christ be continued in the lives of the youth who will deepen their faith through Bible studies, simulation games, powerful worship and singing, and the many one-to-conversations that will introduce Jesus to them as their Lord and Savior. Be with Matt Chin and Jonathan Wong and the entire Youth Camp staff as they lead next week.

O Lord, you are the God who has been with us wherever we have gone, and will go before us in wisdom and truth. In the name of Christ Jesus, we pray who taught us to pray together, “Our Father…”

And now may the God of the United States and China,

Of all the countries that will participate in the 2012 Olympics

As well as those that for some reasons they can’t,

Begin to bring the peace of Christ as a gift of healing in a broken world.

May we give the Olympic Jesus the gold this week!

Amen.
