Prayer of God’s People

O God, you have proven your love for us by sending us the good shepherd who laid his life down for the sheep. No hired hand could save us, no mortal human being can protect us, no pretender can defend us. But Jesus the good shepherd, who proved his love for us by voluntarily surrendering himself into the hands of evil, he alone is able to save and transform us. We listen and yearn for the voice of Jesus, speaking to us in the questions and the challenges of our lives.

Today, Lord, we are faced with grief and the loss of more loved ones in our community of faith. We thank you that the Good News of the Resurrection was not for a day or an era, but for ever and always. We praise you, God whose light dispels the darkness, that yours is a world of hope and that our destiny is joy. Grant us hope and the promise of a new day.

Jesus said that there were “other sheep not of this fold,” and they too must be called and invited. Help us never, in our words or actions, to place a wall where there should be a gate, a chasm where there should be a bridge, a lock where there should be an open door. Guide us as individuals and as a congregation, to so fully worship that others may come to know your majesty and love for them. Use us as instruments of your peace through Jesus Christ the Good Shepherd who taught us to pray together, “Our Father…”

Benediction

There are many other sheep that do not belong to this fold.

Christ seeks to bring us together!

Listen to the divine voice, for there is one flock, one shepherd!

Share the name of Jesus, the good shepherd,

And shepherd in love with all whom you keep. Amen.
