Prayer of God’s People

All-powerful, all-glorious, almighty and everlasting God, we thank you that you are in our midst today. For we have been about our business all this week, sometimes remembering, sometimes forgetting, and yet you are ever faithful in your love for us.

There is a glorious story unfolding around us, O God. There are blessings showered on everyone—sun, moon, stars, rain, warmth, cold, snow, creatures great and small, and the human family in all its variety and wonder. We confess that we have taken your world for granted, and most of all we have at times taken each other for granted. Forgive us when we have failed to thank you daily for what is given to us all, and what is granted to each of us in particular.

We pray that you bring healing to our loved ones and friends. Continue to strengthen Walter Tom’s body to improve after his accident and for Tom Wong to receive grace and your mercy. Bless Betty Louis and their family during this time of celebrating Eugene Louis’ life. Remind us, when we are forgetful or neglectful, that you are the author of all good things, and that in you we all live and breathe and have our being.

We thank you, Lord for giving us the opportunity to give back a share of blessing that we have received from you. May our gifts toward the World Mission Offering keep more missionaries in other countries to spread the Good News of Jesus. May our gifts to Redwood Glen help continue this life-changing ministry for another 55 years. And may we prayerfully make a pledge to the life and mission of this church in 2014 so that we may serve you, Lord in Chinatown and beyond. Lead us to have a gratitude that goes beyond ourselves and into the world that you have made.

O God, we pray for our nation that is fractured over disagreements and discord in government that created stalemate, polarization and poor judgment. Lead our elected leaders to be compassionate and in service to the people who count on them for their welfare and survival. May the shutdown in Washington come to an end leading to the reestablishment of trust and cooperation.

This day, Lord, we seek to honor you. Speak to us. Speak through us. In our worship and prayers today, we gather in your name, Christ Jesus who taught us to pray together, “Our Father…”

Benediction

Go in peace to tell the world we are one in Jesus,

a people of grace healed in God’s love,

a people with gratitude that goes beyond ourselves to be in the world.

Amen.
