Prayer of God’s People

Gracious Lord God, we come to worship this morning with scattered minds trying to integrate so many concerns and issues facing us, with heavy hearts worried about the health and conditions of loved ones, with fearful concerns scared about the spread of Ebola that has already devastated many families in West Africa and the possibility of spreading even some more. Lead us today to focus on you, Lord God who came to give meaning and purpose in our lives, who healed the sick and who promised us that against any threats and sufferings that you are with us. Thank you, Lord for granting us the reassurance that all life comes from you and that you are in control.

O God, the work that you have tasked us to do continues here in San Francisco as well as in some of the farthest reaches around the globe. We pray for our commitment as we prayerfully consider what we may commit to the life-changing ministries of this church in 2015. We are also convicted over the ministries of our many partners like Rainbow Acres and the many foreign and home missionaries who give all their energies and lives in service to you. We pray that when we are unable to go ourselves that we would support others to do so in your precious name.

As the Fall season comes fully upon us, we asked for your discernment when we are invited to serve on boards and committees in the years to come. May our gifts and talents that have come from you be returned to you in our discipleship. We pray for the discussions on the church’s long-range planning as we covenant together to serve Christ in the many years to come like how faithfully our fore-parents have done in years past. We know, Lord, that we couldn’t do what we have done without you. We pray that you will guide our every step as we step forward into the future with courage and dedicated lives. All that we have asked, we pray in the name of Christ who taught us to pray, “Our Father…”

Benediction

God does not just want what’s in our wallets.

God wants us because we belong to God.

Now may the God who created all creation.

The Lord who redeemed all of creation.

And the Holy Spirit who watches out for all in creation be with us today and for evermore.

Amen.
