Prayers 5 16 2010

*Thanks for your prayers as the Holy Land Pilgrims traveled to Israel and Jordan in the past 2 weeks; we were all safe and will have many stories and pictures to share with you about how our faith has been deepened because we have traveled to the places where Jesus walked

*My appreciation to Pastor Chris and Dr. Chuck for covering the 10:20 pulpit for me while I was away

*ABSW Commencement, Saturday, Beth Eden, Oakland, 2:00 with Dr. Roy Medley delivering the address

*Thank you for your support for “Love for the Poor” from the sales of baked goods in the past two Sundays; Funds raised (minus costs) were $914.26; they will support Love for the Poor with supplies for poor children (bunk beds, shoes, school bags, etc.), surgery for an orphan with hydrocephalus; and $150 of the proceeds will assist Pastor Jane’s trip cost.

Prayer Concerns

*Clark Flesher, pastor of FBC in Alameda had open heart surgery on May 7th and while in surgery, suffered a minor stroke; he is doing better and welcomes our prayers; this is the church here Karen Yee serves as the associate

*Walter Owyang for his continuing struggle to battle cancer

*Pastoral Search Committee when it meets on Thursday evening as we commence the process to call a new pastor of family ministries to our church

*MIT Ashang Lolly as he completes his field education program at our church; we’ll continue to pray for his development as a servant of the Lord

Prayer of God’s People

Gracious Lord God, we give you praise for the day that you have made and all the creatures and peoples that walk this earth. When we travel to new places like the pilgrims who just returned from Israel and Jordan, we are reminded of how you have touched the many and varied places of life. You have blessed us with different cultures and traditions, languages that all seem to acknowledge you as the one God, different and still nourishing food that sustains us to be attentive of your wonder, and most of all, Lord, to know you personally through the life, ministry, death and resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ. We pray that our faith in Christ remains strong here in San Francisco and around the world to bring about peace and reconciliation between neighbors, to be a light in a often dark world, to foster a confidence in you to walk with us in every stage of our lives.

As our church readies itself to more actively reach out to new families and young adults to have a closer relationship with you, we pray for the Search Committee as it begins its work this week. We pray for those servants whom you have trained and nurtured to consider our position opening to apply and to join this witnessing community of faith. Thank you, Lord for sending our Minister in Training, Ashang Lolly to us this past year to learn from us and for us to learn from him. We praise you for the historical work done by missionaries like Judson and others who first went to Burma and northeast India with a Baptist perspective of ministry. Now we are able to reap the harvest of work done before. Bless Ashang as he starts his third year at ABSW this coming Fall.

Lord, we lift up for your healing and restoring mercies those we know who are in need of your miracles. Strengthen your disciple Clark Flesher as he recovers from heart surgery and a minor stroke. We pray that he will be able to serve you as one who has given his life for your word and deeds. Bless the leaders and people at Alameda First Baptist as they continue to serve you in faith. Bless Walter Owyang with grace and peace as he continues to struggle with cancer. Be with Ginny and their family to have hope and confidence that God is never afar from us. We pray for…

Loving God, in the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. In the name of Jesus Christ, we have gathered to worship and to give our lives to you. In the name of Jesus Christ, we know that Christ reigns in our hearts, in the Holy Land, and in all the world. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray, “Our Father…”

Benediction

As you, O God, have blessed our coming in, now bless our going forth; and grant that when we leave your house we may not leave your presence, but be ever near us and keep us near to you. Amen.
