Prayer of God’s People

Dear God, you are present with the hungry, abiding with the persecuted. You strengthen the survivors of disasters and afflict the consciences of those who have plenty. We praise you as the author of all good things.

When we come to worship and pray together, Lord, we are delighted that we may mirror your active love, which moves in our midst. Even when we have settled comfortably in our places, we pray that you would unsettle us so that our eyes may be opened to the opportunities for ministry that you give us. Guide and watch over the Thailand Mission team as they serve you in a Karen village in Northern Thailand for the next two weeks. Equip them and bless them with the courage to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ to those who have a heart to know your love for them. Protect these ambassadors from our church from all harm and danger and return them to us so that we too may catch the vision for missions.

We lift up in prayer those in our community who are in need of your power of healing. Be with Tristan Feng as he grows up with special abilities to live up to what you have planned for him. Grant his parents patience and understanding to love and support especially during these very trying and difficult times. Stir our hearts to pray and to offer whatever assistance that we can provide to help and support Laura and Tom at this time of stress. We pray for a complete recovery of Dr. Chuck after his angioplasty procedures so that he can continue his lifelong witness of faithfulness in you. We are truly blessed to have him serve with us across these many years as your humble and faithful servant.

As a strong and committed American Baptist church bearing witness in the world, be with our church’s delegation as they represent us at this year’s Mission Summit in Kansas this weekend. Open their eyes to learn from others as much as they will be able to share their life-changing experiences at our church with others at this convention.

And finally, Lord, we give you thanks for our fathers. For all about them that is kind, generous, dependable and good, we are grateful. For all they have taught us about living with integrity, respect and honor, we thank you. We appreciate the sacrifices they made, the discipline they instilled and the faith they modeled. For their shortcomings and failures, we forgive them and release them to you. Where hurt or wounds have been inflicted, we ask for healing and grace. For those whose fathers have passed on, we ask for the peace of good memories and freedom from regret. For those still living, we ask your blessing upon them this day.

For the sake of Christ who taught us to pray together, “Our Father…”

Benediction

As the father taught his son in Proverbs,

Do not forget my teaching,

But let your heart keep my commandments;

For length of days and years of life

And abundant welfare they will give you.

Do not let steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;

Bind them around your neck,

Write them on the tablet of your heart.

So you will find favor and good repute

In the sight of God and of people.

Amen.
