Prayer of God’s People

O God of wondrous love, we come to you in the midst of our hurried lives, yearning to hear again your peace to us. We struggle daily to live by your priorities, and we find the world around us tugging at us, eroding our efforts, denigrating our desires, diminishing our hopes and our dreams. You alone are perfectly faithful, always ready to offer your wondrous peace in the midst of all the conflicting demands made upon us.

Nothing in this world has to offer, with all of its beauties but also with all its contradictions, can compare to the love, peace and joy we know in your presence. We thank you for the good relationships we have in this community of faith, and in our families, and among our neighbors. Increase and deepen those good relationships. Where there is strain or conflict, may it be creative and courageous, so that our convictions may be strengthened and our bonds be made strong once again.

We pray, dear God for those in our midst who are troubled and poor in health. We pray for all the benefits that modern medicine can provide to bring physical healing. We pray for all the family members and friends who offer sustaining encouragement to have hope. But after we have done everything we know as faithful people, we pray not at last but foremost for your divine presence and mercy to be upon Anne Lee’s daughter Theresa and upon Anthony Liu’s father as they receive comfort and care at these times of illness. We pray for Francis Kwong whose mother passed this week that you would comfort Francis and his family at this time believing that you are a loving and merciful Creator. Grant all of us loving mercy, O God.

Strengthen our belief and our faith in your Son, that we may know the fullness of life, that in the adventure of caring and following and serving, we may learn what eternal life is. Help us to remember that peace is not the absence of struggle, but rather the presence and power of your Spirit. Spread a feast for us in the wilderness, join our hands together in the pursuit of your realm of love and justice, that, strengthen our journey, we may rejoice as did the freshly encouraged disciples in that room so long ago, who came face to face with eternity in the person of your Son, our risen Savior, in whose name we pray together, “our Father…”

Benediction

At his birth, the angels proclaimed, “Peace to all of good will!”

With his resurrection, Jesus said, “Peace be with you!”

Be surprised beyond a doubt.

Jesus said, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe!”

Amen.
