We all know that one of the greatest gifts from God that we can receive would be a child. From the love between two persons, a child is born.
In the Bible, when the people started hearing about the wonderful miracles and teachings that Jesus was doing, they wanted to bring their children to him so that he might bless them. When the disciples probably thinking that children would be a distraction and told them to go away, Jesus stepped in and sternly told his disciples to “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.” (Matthew 19: 14)
Kevin and Denise Lew along with their other children and grandparents Dick and Anna Quan Wong have brought this little girl, Hayley Frances Lew so that God and all of us may bless her because it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.
I’m not sure why Kevin and Denise chose the name Hayley but when I thought about this name, I can think of three reasons:
1. Alex Haley, the writer of Roots: The Saga of an American Family in 1976 that taught us how important family history is. This Hayley is deeply rooted in the history of your family of growing up as an Asian American. Grandpa Dick will make sure of that!
2. Bill Haley, the rock and roll singer who made “Rock Around the Clock” famous and established rock and roll’s popularity. This Hayley will sing, and dance, and rock around the clock keeping you awake for the rest of your lives!
3. Halley’s Comet, first observed in 240 BC is the only comet that can be seen with the naked eye comes every 75 years. The last time was 1986 that means that the next time would be 2061 at which time, this Hayley will be 50 years old. Any comet is a spectacular and rare sight. This is to say that Hayley Frances is a spectacular person and rare like a precious gem!
Hayley Frances belongs to the kingdom of heaven because God made her to be a part of this deeply rooted family, full of life and vitality that rocks around the clock, and is unique and special, one and only, as spectacular and rare like Halley’s Comet. May God bless Hayley Frances Lew.
Let us pray.
Dear Lord, thank you for the gift of life and this wonderful baby that you have given to Kevin and Denise and to their larger family. May Haley Frances grow up to know Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior because of the dedication and commitment of her parents and this loving family. We celebrate today with good friendships and delicious food that are all reminders of your reconciliation made possible in Christ and the abundance and blessings in life shown in your providence. Bless this food we are about to eat and guide our every step toward your kingdom work. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
