Jane Lee Quon Funeral

I knew Jane as one of my colleagues at First Chinese Baptist in the mid-1970s. I started as an associate pastor with Dr. James Chuck and Jane was the Night School Director. In partnership with City College of SF, Jane was our representative of our church supporting the City College teachers and more importantly, assisting students to assess services from the city and state. On every night of the week, she would often read what appear as official letters sent to the students and guide them to reply. Whether they were immigrants, refugees, or undocumented people, Jane symbolized for them a new place to call home.

More recently about 20 years ago, Jane asked if I wanted some of her potted orchids. I drove to her apartment and loaded 4-5 orchids along with their pots. They beautified our walkway for many years. I thought about what Jesus said to the disciples when they were worrying. He said, “Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil not spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these.” (Matt. 6:28)

Jane did not worry because she knew Jesus and like her orchids, she beautified her world and our world and because of this, we are truly blessed.
