Do You Want to Be Made Well?: Sermon Notes

John 5:1-15—May 20, 2007

I. Waiting to be Heal

A. Jesus asks the man who has been waiting to be healed for 38 years, “Do you want to be made well?”

B. Jesus’ words, “Stand up, take your mat and walk.” are an intervention to confront the man’s depression.

C. Jesus said, “See, you have been made well! Do not sin anymore, so that nothing worse happens to you.” is to place the responsibility onto the man to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

II. Being Well

A. Do you want to be made well?

B. We must take some responsibility for the problem of obesity in America.

C. The problem of obesity in children can be resolve by adults adopting healthier behaviors in their own lives.

III. Network of Community Resources

A. At FCBC, we have the faith and commitment to become an informal network of community resources.

B. We also trust God with healing because Jesus Christ is the Great Physician.

C. “We are to work as if everything depended on us and pray as if everything depended on God.”

IV. Temple of God

A. Paul in 1 Cor. 6 says, We are to glorify God with both our body and our spirit.

B. Make the Christian life your major reason for living.
