Gordon N. Chan Community Services Center
Dedication—February 18, 2003
The Psalmist said, “Our help is in the name of God, who made heaven and earth. Unless God builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” (124:8; 127:1)
Gordon Chan gave his life to this community because of his faith in God. He used his God-given gifts of sound business practices, honesty and integrity, and his contagious personality to help Asian Americans build up the San Jose community. Gordon was able to make a difference in this world because of his strong belief that he was doing God’s work. By naming this community services center after Gordon N. Chan, you will have a constant reminder that God continues to work in this world bringing health, wholeness, and peace to everyone.
Let us pray.
With great joy, we come before you, O God. We praise you for your marvelous works among your people, but especially we praise you for the life and work of your servant, Gordon N. Chan who labored faithfully for the sake of this community. May every child, youth, adult who comes here know that people like Gordon Chan have sacrificed dearly so that vital human services can be provided for them. We pray that you will continue blessing the staff and programs that are meeting important human needs at this place. Thank you, O God for the spirit and continuing legacy of Gordon Chan who serves as a model for us to give of ourselves to others. In his memory and in the sight of God, our Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer, we prayerfully dedicate this building as the Gordon N. Chan Community Services Center. In the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
