Prayer of God’s People

We thank you, God, that you chose us before the creation of the world, and did not leave us in darkness, but gave us Jesus, the light of life in whom we see and experience all we need. As we worship and pray to you this morning, baptize us anew by your Spirit. Sensitize us to your will and purposes and strengthen us to be obedient, as was our Lord Jesus Christ to you.

As we continue to embrace this brand New Year of 2014, we thank you for the gathering of church leaders yesterday as we began organizing our work and trusting in your promise. We lift up the CCU and dedicate Dick Wong as its new vice president as we have a Christian witness in our ecumenical work in Chinatown and beyond. We pay for the success and effectiveness of the Reception Ministry that will be launched this coming Saturday and pray that people searching for Good News may find it here.

Uphold us as we pray for those in our community who are in need of your healing and comforting miracles. Be with Martin Choy and Florence Jang as they and their families celebrate the life oft heir mother, Mrs. Tin Choy this Saturday. Comfort Howard Lee in the passing of his brother-in-law Paul and comfort Jeannette Huie in the accidental death of her mother, Isabelle Huie here in Chinatown. May you reveal mercy upon them and gird them up with encouragement in the coming days.

We pray powerfully for Nicodemus Tom as this one-month old baby struggles for health and wellness. Grant his parents, Eunice and Kenneth Tom love and the hopeful outcome that their little boy will grow up to do your will and make a contribution in the world. Take care of David Wong and restore his health.

Forgiving and gracious Lord, we confess that there are moments when we follow the desires of our own hearts rather than yours. We confess our unfaithfulness to the vows of our baptism and have become disobedient to your holy desire for us. We promise to serve you, and yet we so readily choose to serve ourselves; we promise to seek your will in all tings, and yet we so often choose to live by our own. We want to be free and to find our true freedom in you, Lord Jesus who taught us to pray, “Our Father…”

Benediction

Let us also hear God say to us, “These are my sons and daughters, with whom I am well pleased.”

Remember your Baptism and be thankful.

May the pleasure of God and the blessing of God,

the good and righteous one, watch over you always.

Amen.
