*Happy Halloween—this holiday has historic religious roots;

            In the Celtic celebration, it is believed that during this time when the weather is colder and the days are shorter, the boundary between the dead and the living wore especially thin. When we wear costumes, we hide from the spirits. But in the 7th century, Pope Boniface IV declared Nov. 1st as All Saints Day to honor all those who have lived faithfully in the Lord. When we learn about what these saints have done, we want to be like them. So wearing a costume is dressing up to appear to be somebody else—Iron Man, Spiderman, a Disney princess, etc.  God wants us to grow into better people, not in fear, but because God loves us.

Benediction

Look around you and see your neighbors.

Hurry home, for Jesus Christ wants to stay at your house today.

For the Lord we worship gets down low

to be with our neighbors and with us where we are

Today salvation has come to this church.

Today our neighborhoods are being blessed by Christ’s presence.

Amen.
