Prayer of God’s People
Lord God, we come before you this morning to pray for our church, our city and communities, our country and the world. We pray for those in our body who are ill or suffering in mind, body, or spirit. Be with our brother Lester Hom as he recuperates and regains his strength back from major surgery. Grant him hope and encouragement to see each new day as another day of blessings and a second lease on life. We praise you for blessing Anne Lee’s daughter Theresa today and that you will continue to watch over her in the days to come.
We ask for a blessing upon the children and youth in our congregation—show us how we can mentor and teach them so they can follow the narrow path we are called to. Watch over Day Camp as the children learn about Jesus and our young people develop and hone their leadership skills. And if it is according to your will, we pray that the proposed new pastoral position on family ministries will strengthen our commitment to our ministries to young families in our church.
We pray for an increase in faith—let us continue to die to self so that Christ lives more freely and abundantly in us. Help us to live so that when others see us, they see Christ in us.
We pray for the city of San Francisco where our church home is, the many communities that we reside in, and the entire country in which we live. We pray for people in all levels of government—our local and state leaders as well as President Obama, the cabinet, and Congress. Bring a blessing and conviction upon each person who has been placed in authority over others, that they may follow your will for peace, justice, and righteousness for all people. Lord, we are blessed to know such honorable leaders as Paul Fong in our midst.
We pray for our world leaders—to bring peace and boldness to those who are Christians and seek to follow your son, and bring believers into the lives of leaders who do not believe. We pray for world peace—we know that we are far from it—but we pray for every knee to bow at the name of Jesus. We pray for weapons to be put down, for citizens to feel safe in their neighborhoods, for peace in the land. We pray in Christ’s name who taught us to pray together, “Our Father…”
Offertory
Let us work together, people of God, to spread the gospel throughout the world.
Dear God, we give you thanks, this day and every day, for the opportunity to be a part of this great work. All that is seen and unseen, plans coming to fruition in their time, unexpected surprises of redemption, appreciation of faithful lifelong disciples, creativity that you skillfully work into a wonderful tapestry—these things and everything are woven together with our prayers, our works, our faith, and our offerings. O God, you are grounded in every action and activity; we give you our offerings today. Amen.
Benediction
Be grateful because Jesus has forgiven your sins.
You are saved by grace.
Grace alone which God supplies;
Strength unknown he will provide.
Christ in us, our cornerstone.
We will go forth in grace alone. Amen.
