Call to Gather

Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.” (John 11:25-26)

God so love the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

Introductions

My name is Rev. Don Ng, Senior Pastor of First Chinese Baptist Church in San Francisco where Leslie Fong and her sister, Kim once attended. I am glad to be able to be with you at this time of remembrance and saying farewell to Leslie Fong who was born on April 18, 1957 and returned to the Lord on April 12, 2005.

Although I regret never having the opportunity to meet Leslie while she was alive, we know in faith that we are in spirit joined together as God’s human family and that we will all be reunited in eternal life in heaven. I was told by Kim that Leslie had “no regrets and has done everything she wanted to do in life.” That shows the truth that as creatures made in the image of God, we acknowledge God’s sovereign wisdom in setting limits to our life on earth, and for setting before us, through Jesus, our crucified and risen Savior, a limitless life in heaven. We therefore, have faith and trust that whatever that may happen to us here, we have received the promise of everlasting life with God in his eternal home.

Committal

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, crucified and risen, we commend to God’s merciful care our sister, Leslie Fong; and we commit her body to this final resting place: earth to earth, ashes to ashes, and dust to dust.

“Blessed are those who die in the Lord, they will rest from their labors; for their deeds follow them.” (Rev. 14:13)

Let us pray.

Merciful God, you created us in your own image, perhaps because you were lonely; you created us as members of families, so that none of us should ever be lonely; you share our grief when the family circle is broken and we experience loneliness and sorrow, because someone we have loved and counted on has left us. Grant us strength to face our loss, with the assurance that Leslie Fong’s return to you has not broken our family circle, but only extended it beyond this earthly scene into the heavens that your children share with you, thanks to the resurrection of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Benediction

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace. Amen. (Numbers 6:24-26)
