Cathy Brubaker Retirement

Well, well. While I may be the person who has known Cathy the longest, all the way back when she and I were in the Division of Church Education in Educational Ministries, anyone who meets Cathy for any length of time would say that she is, well, a fine person.

There is fine china and fine art. Most of us are kind of rough around the edges or unrefined when we didn’t finish finishing school. But if you know Cathy, she is a fine person.

Somehow, she keeps everything in order. She makes sure that whatever we need to conduct the Lord’s business, the proper documents are there. She takes copious and accurate minutes so that our descendants would be able to know what we have faithfully done. Cathy makes fine minutes and distributes them;

She supplies the ABC with information.

Strength and dignity are her fine clothing,

And she laughs at the time to come.

She opens her mouth with wisdom,

And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.

She looks well to the ways of her office,

And does not take long coffee breaks.

Her colleagues rise up and call her happy;

Her supervisor too, and Susan praises her:

“Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.”

Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,

But a fine woman like Cathy who fears the Lord is to be praised.

Give her a share in the fruit of her hands,

And let her fine works praise her in the American Baptist Churches, USA and the world.

Cathy, you are a fine and Godly woman whom we appreciate, honor, and celebrate tonight! Thanks be to God for your lifetime of service in the Lord! She is so fine!
