Much can be said about Bill Chin! He was reliable and dependable. If one needs something to be done, you can count on Bill Chin. Bill was never a showman but a vital member of the cast. He rarely sang a solo but blended his voice with the other guys to create a mellow crooner sound. Bill didn’t need a spotlight on him but he preferred to point his spotlight on others. One thing he and Flo would do is to take friends out to lunch in Daly City—it was their way to do something nice for others. Bill was very grateful for the life he had.
We all have our very own life journey on which to travel and Bill’s was not always easy. His physical health often slowed him down. His life with Flo led to some trying times. But Bill’s outlook in life was always positive. The hand he was dealt with, he played it without any complaints.
For me, one of the images I still have of Bill is the way he would converse with you. When presented with a question, he would blink his eyes like he was figuring out an answer or thinking out loud of a possible solution or perhaps discerning what may be the God thing to do.
There’s a hymn that we used to sing when we were youth, “Give of Your Best to the Master.” The verse goes like this:
Give of your best to the Master;
Give of the strength of your youth;
Throw your soul’s fresh, glowing ardor
Into the battle for truth.
Jesus has set the example,
Dauntless was He, young and brave;
Give Him your loyal devotion;
Give Him the best that you have.
Refrain:
Give of your best to the Master;
Give of the strength of your youth;
Clad in salvation’s full armor,
Join in the battle for truth.
Bill always gave his best to his Master Jesus. He did his best with Flo and a marriage happened. He did his best at fixing broken things at the church and the church continues to thrive today. He did his best singing in the choir and now the choir is honoring his name. So, in the end, Bill Chin did his best for the Master when he gave his life to Christ and he joined the ranks of the redeemed in eternal life.
Closing Prayer
Let us pray.
Remember, beloved brothers and sisters: God has promised to bless us and keep us in this life and in our new life with the Lord.
The same God whose face now shines on our friend, Bill Chin, has promised, through our Lord, to forgive us and to shelter us throughout eternity.
