Prayer of God’s People
Gracious God, we have come into your house seeking your presence and singing your praise. We thank you that we can worship you in freedom.
You gift us with brothers and sisters in Christ who love you and one another, and for that we are grateful. We know it is not good for us to be alone, but instead that we belong together, so that we can strengthen and encourage one another, in good times and bad. Thank you for continuing to bless our church family with newborns that symbolize the promise of a new tomorrow. Be with Dana and Joe Tam as they celebrate the birth of Kaylee. Bless our church life as we worship, pray, study, and fellowship together today.
We come with many concerns, some pertaining to ourselves, and many dealing with others. We pray for those who are sick and feel discouraged: may our prayers and presence buoy them up and make them aware that they do not suffer alone. Remind us that you want us to be well so that we may bear glorious witness to your mercy. Continue to watch over Lester Hom and Nelson Wong as they regain their strength after recent surgeries.
Some of our sisters and brothers are unable to come out, and so may we reach out to them in visits, in person or over the phone. Some of us are worried about our unemployment; our ability to pay our bills, about our children and their welfare—and much more. Calm our minds and fill us with a trust in you that banishes all fear.
Strengthen our President and all members of Congress in their important work, and bring them to a renewed desire to work for the good of this nation, rather than for the benefit of their parties. We pray for a permanent remedy for the continuing destruction of the Gulf of Mexico as the result of the oil spill. Be with the many who are responding to this disaster and with those whose livelihood has been affected by this calamity. Guide and protect the men and women of our armed services, and especially those in the nations of the Middle East to find long-lasting peace.
Lastly, we thank you for giving us families to which to belong. While this may simply be another popular occasion to think about our fathers or guardians, we take this opportunity to appreciate those who have guided, protected, and nurtured us to become the people we are today. All this we pray in Christ’s name and who taught us to pray together, saying, “Our Father…”
Offertory
We are on a mission from God to go beyond these walls to the four corners of the earth!
Let us pray. Dear God, accept these gifts and offerings to proclaim good news to those who are discouraged, relief to those who are in crises, and a symbol of our willingness to give our lives to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Benediction
In Christ, you are sitting at the feet of Jesus Christ.
You are no longer naked but clothed.
You are no longer sick but in your right mind.
Jesus says, “Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you.”
Amen.
