Prayer of God’s People
Gracious God, protect us and project us into the world. But first, on this first Sunday in June, we pray that you would enter into our hearts when we partake of the Lord’s Supper. Inspire us in your love as we hear the gospel choir lead us to order our steps to follow you as our King Jesus.
Thank you Lord for blessing us with such strong and dedicated leaders and teachers who lead by word and deeds to disciple others to know Christ as their Lord and Savior. We pray for the gifts and talents that teachers and leaders bring as we celebrate their service at today’s luncheon. And as there is a vital need for all persons to serve, we also pray for our pastoral candidate Visal Sok as he prepares to meet with us next weekend. Guide Visal as he develops his sermon to share the good news with us and be with Lindsay as she and Visal are open to the leading of the Spirit to serve with us at FCBC.
We pray for missions both at home as well as in faraway places that are often outside of our consciousness. Bless the final planning days of Day Camp under the able leadership of Rachel Jensen and Melanie Ng that the 100 children will learn about the Bible and develop new friendships as a Christian community. Challenge us to give generously to support world relief when disasters happen through the One Great Hour of Sharing offering. May the little that we give become expanded by your miracles around the world.
We pray for those who are in great need of your presence as they face each trial with courage and faithfulness. Be with Alan Fong as he heals and change his life toward a healthier lifestyle. Bless…
Finally, we pray for the wonderful worship that we have and particularly have been blessed with the music from our Say Amen! Gospel Ensemble. We thank you for blessing them with beautiful voices and their commitments to bring gospel and spirituals that have enriched us for these past 12 years. As they complete this ministry, we pray that you will use them in other ways to continue to advance your kingdom on earth.
We welcome you, O God to be with us today. We pray all these things in your precious name, Lord Jesus who taught us to pray together, “Our Father…”
The Lord’s Supper
When we celebrate the Lord’s Supper, we are expected to recite the Words of Institution that are found in Matthew, Mark, Luke and by Paul written in 1 Corinthians. In all of these accounts, we hear the words of Jesus who said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me. This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” We don’t know what Jesus’ voice actually sounded like. But we do know that when we say these words every time we celebrate the Lord’s Supper, we hear God’s love for the world that he gave his Son for the forgiveness of sins. The voice of God can be heard in celebrating the meal we are about to eat.
Benediction
The voice of God is powerful.
The voice of God is full of majesty.
The voice of God is so strong that it breaks cedars and strips oaks bare.
But the voice of God is also speaking to you and sending you out to the people with good news.
May the Lord bless you, his people with peace. Amen.
