For Roy, retirement is that time of life when his wife will realize she never gave her husband\u2019s administrative assistant enough sympathy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I heard there was lots of chicken where Roy grew up (Georgia).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Frank Perdue, the chicken king, had a brilliant marketing idea to help sell more chickens. He called Valley Forge and requested a private audience with the General Secretary. The request was granted, and a few weeks later, Mr. Perdue was ushered into a room for his meeting with the General Secretary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After explaining who he was, Mr. Perdue began. \u201cYour Humble Servant, I have a proposition to make that I think will help both of us. I\u2019d like you to change the words of the Lord\u2019s Prayer from \u2018Give us this day our daily bread\u2019 to \u2018Give us this day our daily chicken.\u2019 It\u2019ll sell a lot more chickens, and I\u2019m prepared to pay the church a million dollars for this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The General Secretary shook his head vehemently and said, \u201cNo, I\u2019m afraid that\u2019s quite impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Frank Perdue persisted, \u201cWell, would you take $10 million dollars to make the change?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Again the General Secretary shook his head. \u201cMr. Perdue, the Lord\u2019s Prayer has remained essentially unchanged for 2,000 years. We can\u2019t tamper with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Perdue raised his offer. \u201cWould you take $100 million dollars?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was a huge amount of money, and the General Secretary, aware of the needs of the poor, the hungry, the missions and the myriad other financial burdens of the church, thought for a moment before answering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMr. Perdue, you\u2019ve got a deal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A meeting of the NEC along with the NLC was quickly convened by the General Secretary. \u201cMy dear colleagues,\u201d the General Secretary began, \u201cI have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that we are receiving $100 million dollars from Mr. Frank Perdue to change the Lord\u2019s Prayer from \u2018Give us this day our daily bread\u2019 to \u2018Give us this day our daily chicken.\u2019 The bad news is that we\u2019re losing the Wonder Bread account.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
